The Mexican Folkoric Dance Company of Chicago and SIU Ballet Folkloric Dos Fronteras danced through a variety of traditional stories Saturday, May 3 at O’Neil Auditorium.
Cuerdas Clásicas performed several songs featuring a diverse range of techniques. It was a free event that took place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Mexican Folkoric Dance Company of Chicago has performed in the Latin GRAMMYs, Premios Lo Nuestro, Univision’s Mariachi Festival, and the Pan-American Games.
SIU Ballet Folkloric Dos Fronteras displays Ballet Folklorico Mexicano, which is a traditional folk dancing focused on the country of Mexico. Using traditional folk music, clothing and accessories based in different regions of Mexico, dancers perform and tell stories through dance.
Cuerdas Clásicas is an organization of professionally trained musicians, troubadours and bohemians who perform melodies of a classical and semi-classical nature as well as traditional music of the Tuna/Estudiantina tradition established in sixteenth century Spain.
