John A. Logan College’s World Music and Food Day on April 23 blended live performances, global cuisine and colorful dance traditions in a celebration of international heritage and community connection.
John A. Logan College hosted its annual World Music and Food Day on April 23, 2025, bringing together performances, dance, and global cuisine for students and community members.

The event opened with Morikeba Kouyate, born and raised in Bounkiling, Senegal, performing alongside guest musician Larry Millard, a member of the Southern Illinois West African Drumming Ensemble. Kouyate played the kora, a traditional African stringed instrument he has mastered since childhood.
The John A. Logan College choir performed two traditional African songs and previewed a piece from their upcoming May 7 concert at O’Neil Auditorium. The Cobden High School Dance Team, ESL, performed several traditional dances, weaving movement, laughter, and colorful skirts into their routines.
Food vendors included Caribbean Hut, Cristado’s, India Delight, Las Posas, Thai D, and Zeenah’s Palace Authentic Nigerian/African Cuisine.
