Through the Lens and in the Arena: JALC Student Captures Murray State Rodeo

MURRAY, Ky. — JALC Media Arts student Ashton Fox, who grew up in rural Williamson County and has been active in rodeo since the age of four, brought her camera and passion for the sport to the Murray State Rodeo this past weekend. Held at the Cherry Expo Center in Murray, Kentucky, the event drew fierce competitors from across the Ozark Region, all aiming for a spot at the prestigious College National Finals Rodeo in Wyoming.

Hosted by the Murray State Rodeo Team, the rodeo featured high-stakes events like Saddle Bronc Riding, Bareback Riding, Calf Roping, Steer Wrestling, and Bull Riding, keeping spectators on edge, while Barrel Racing, Breakaway Roping, Goat Tying, and Team Roping showcased speed and precision. Colleges from across the region, including Missouri Valley College and the University of West Alabama, competed for top honors.

“We had a good rodeo but definitely not our best. The men’s team finished 4th overall. Had some good things happen and learned how to be better at the next one,” said Chad Phipps, head rodeo coach at Three Rivers College.
