Corey Harris brings “Blues the World Forgot” to Carterville

MacArthur Fellow and blues musician Corey Harris will present a lecture and performance, “Blues the World Forgot,” as part of John A. Logan College’s Black History Month programming and the Social Science Speaker Series. The Media Arts program also contributed funds to support the event.

“I first saw Corey in the mid 1990s at a blues festival, and I have watched him grow into one of the living legends of the genre,” said Devin Miller, lead instructor of Media Arts. “Having an artist of this caliber in Carterville is a big deal, and it brings high-level culture to our region.”

Harris received a MacArthur Fellowship in 2007. His album Fish Ain’t Bitin’ won a W.C. Handy Award for best acoustic blues album. His album The Insurrection Blues was nominated for a Blues Music Award in the Acoustic Blues Album category.
