Southern Illinois honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with two days of events celebrating his life and message of equality, justice, and nonviolent activism. Dr. King, a civil rights leader who championed the fight against racial injustice and economic inequality, continues to inspire communities across the nation to strive for unity and change.
On Monday, Jan. 20, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity hosted their annual MLK Day march in Carbondale. Participants began at Grinnell Hall on the campus of SIUC, walking along West College Street and back, accompanied by a police escort. The march drew a diverse crowd united in remembrance and hope. Logan College choir and King speeches of King’s read by Black Student Association members.
